New Life!

Have you ever watched this before? Notice the egg on the left. it is in the process of hatching. This last spring for a class project we hatched some eggs in an incubator. The incubator had a window we could look through and watch the process. Everyone enjoyed the experience! We let each of the school students take one chick home. This summer we had one hen try several times to set. We finally let her have her way. This one hatching above is #11. Sadly it didn't make it, but 8 of them were running about this afternoon.

We have her seperated from the others for a while. Seems to be a very good mother. See how her tail feathers are all ruffled. She is out of sorts with me because I'm in the pen.
